Who Is Responsible?

where would Esther have ended up,

if not for her obedience from childhood?

where would Daniel find his trust & strength,

if not for his habits in food & prayer?

do we forget our responsibilities,

and reason away our own accountability?

voluntary allegiance & a thirst for discipline,

by prayer & fasting - lessons in submission;

this has always been 'the Way',

and will & should involve all our desires

there simply are no easy ways,

no shortcuts, except in illusion;

acknowledge reality, for our road must be long & hard,

but protected, we won't have to fear it
